Squid fishing in the Southwest Atlantic

The squid catch in the Southwest Atlantic was 0 tons for two weeks, and nearly 80 percent of fishing vessels on the high seas turned back or diverted. As of September 12th, only 18 fishing vessels were operating on the high seas.

In the past week, 3,300.9 tons of squid have been caught off Peru. As of September 12, the cumulative total catch in 2016 was 98,043.7 tons. The number of fishing vessels operating on the high seas is 232, accounting for 88% of the total squid fishing vessels in Peruvian waters.

A total of 4,243 tons of squid were caught in the North Pacific in the past week. As of September 12, the cumulative total catch in 2016 was 21,556.5 tons. In the same period last year, 12,603.3 tons of squid were caught in the North Pacific, an increase of about 71 percent.
